Case Study: Bringing Export Controls expertise in-house

An SME renting equipment to oil & gas operators in the UK identified opportunities to support their current customers outside the UK, mainly in Algeria, Libya, Nigeria and Saudi Arabia.

The SME’s products, although not military goods, could have a military use and were therefore controlled under the dual use regulations. The executive team was apprehensive of entering such complex markets.

We studied the transactions to identify areas of risks and non-compliance. Through a series of workshops, we explored those risks, considered the choice of options to mitigate them and introduced our “plug and play” processes, procedures and checklists that were embedded into their current business practices.

Today, their equipment is not only in these countries, but also in Brazil and Australia, Russia and China.
