Behind the advice: how we think, how we work.

Independent customs advisory firm. 25+ countries, one coordinated team. Clear, defensible, confidential advice. Designed for leadership teams.

Alegrant exists because international trade has become unnecessarily difficult to navigate. We are customs law specialists by training, but advisers by instinct. Our work sits at the intersection of regulation, operations, and decision-making where clarity matters more than volume of information. This page is not about what we sell. It is about how we think, how we work, and what clients can expect from us over time.

We believe that Global trade works best when customs is designed as a strategic, defensible function that brings clarity, control, and measurable value to the business.

This belief shapes how we advise leadership teams, structure global engagements, and take responsibility for long-term outcomes.

— Why Alegrant was built

Founded on a structural problem, not a technical one

Alegrant was founded by global trade and customs compliance professionals who had worked inside complex regulatory systems in customs authorities, law firms, and large advisory organisations.

We saw the same issues repeatedly:

  • Good businesses making poor decisions due to unclear advice.
  • Technical answers disconnected from operational reality.
  • Fragmented guidance across countries.
  • Clients paying for volume, not judgement.

These failures are not technical. They are structural. Alegrant was built to do things differently: fewer words, more clarity; fewer handovers, more continuity; less noise, better decisions.

— how we think

Three filters, applied to every question

We do not see customs as paperwork or compliance in isolation. Customs decisions affect supply chains, pricing and margins, contractual risk, reputational exposure, and growth timelines.

That is why we approach every question with three filters:

  1. Is it compliant?
  2. Is it workable in practice?
  3. Is it appropriate for the client’s stage of growth?

If an answer only satisfies one of these, it is not good enough. This framework ensures advice is not only correct, but decision-ready.

— how we work

Calm guidance, built on quiet discipline

Behind the scenes, our work is deliberately structured. Every engagement has a clearly accountable adviser. Advice is reviewed for accuracy and clarity before delivery. Positions are documented to ensure consistency over time. We cite legal sources and rulings, not opinions, and we challenge assumptions, including our own.

Clients experience this as calm, clear guidance. What they do not see is the discipline that makes it possible, the discipline that allows our advice to remain consistent, defensible, and reliable over time.

— independence

Confidentiality and judgement, not a marketing constraint

We are independent by design. We do not sell software, we do not receive referral fees, and we do not promote solutions that serve us more than the client.

Confidentiality is treated as a professional obligation. We do not publicise client names or engagements unless explicitly authorised. When necessary, we will say things clients may not want to hear:

“This approach increases risk.” · “This may be legally defensible but operationally fragile.” · “This saves cost now but creates exposure later.”

Clients do not always like these answers immediately. They value them over time. This independence is essential for organisations that need advice they can rely on under regulatory scrutiny.

— OUR PEOPLE

Practitioners, locally based, working to one shared framework

Alegrant’s advisers are not generalists. They are practitioners with deep experience in customs and trade law, drawn from customs authorities, international law firms, Big 4 advisory, and in-house trade and compliance roles.

They are locally based in the jurisdictions they advise on, but work within a shared Alegrant framework so advice remains consistent across borders, see where we operate, below. This structure allows us to scale globally without diluting judgement or consistency. Technical strength is a baseline. Judgement, clarity, and restraint are what we select for.

— GLOBAL REACH

Were we work

Alegrant operates across 24 countries, including markets where specialist customs expertise is genuinely difficult to find.

Europe

United Kingdom (HQ), France, Belgium, Netherlands, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Lithuania, Serbia, Germany.

America

United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay.

Africa

Morocco, Nigeria, Ghana, Gabon, Cameroon, Congo, Equatorial Guinea.

Middle East & Asia

Saudi Arabia, India, China, Singapore, Philippines, Kazakhstan.

Several of these markets are ones where specialist customs expertise is genuinely scarce. Our experience in countries such as Nigeria, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, and Brazil means we can support clients with operations in jurisdictions that most advisory firms simply do not cover.

— Technology, Used Carefully

We do not automate judgement

We use technology and AI to support research, comparison, and regulatory monitoring. We do not automate judgement. Every conclusion is reviewed by a specialist who understands the law, the operational reality, and the commercial implications. If something cannot be explained clearly, it is not ready to be acted on.

”While we focus on delivering the world’s first ‘underground drone’ to grain storage operators and help them Saving Grains, we like to avoid unnecessary bureaucratic complexity putting a stall on our operations, and the Alegrant expert, through a single session, was able to help us understand how to navigate the customs duties landscape during this transition period through very clear language and advice.”
